Another potential life-saving incident involving a TASER ECD, “Milwaukee Police Tase Teen Over Weekend.” Check out the news video – TASER victim thanks officers. Officers confronted a 15-yr-old “child” in a high crime area of Milwaukee. The teen had a .45 caliber gun in his hand and ran. The teen ran from police and is safely subdued & arrested with a TASER ECD. What’s really important is not a controversy about whether deadly force is used or why police used an ECD on a “child” which are some of the typical arm chair quarterback complaints when this occcurs. The crux of this issue is that someone was saved and that the teen himself later repeatedly thanks the officers for not shooting him — you have to watch the video interview of the officers to hear this.
Law enforcement is authorized to use deadly force when confronted with a suspect armed with a firearm. The outcome of this incident could’ve been tragic for this teen & his family as it is for officers when they must use deadly force. Officers must make split-second decisions in dynamic situations & those actions are scrutinized. Fortunately for this teen, the officer’s actions potentially saved his life and it appears as though this teen even recognizes his actions could have ended his life.
