We’re dog lovers here at TASER but realize that there are occaisions when a TASER ECD has been used to subdue aggressive canines. TASERs on dogs can be an effective way to deter a threatening animal. One of our favorite stories is from Shreveport, Louisiana, “Woman’s Best Friend.” An elderly woman’s dog won’t leave her side after she suffers from some sort of medical emergency. When the ambulance crew arrives the dog won’t let them near her. Shreveport police show up, Cpl. Christian Hicks, “The dog would charge at us then back up. He would go back over and lick her face, trying to get her up and help her. He’s a very, very loyal dog.” Cpl. Hicks then uses his TASER ECD to subdue the faithful dog long enough to get the woman to a safe place for the paramedics to treat her & put the canine companion behind closed doors.
We’re glad the situation worked out well, the dog was safe, the paramedics were able to do their job & the woman received the help she needed.
The Taser is not only useful on aggressive dogs, but on animals such as coyotes, bobcats, etc. Here in AZ, there are several instances where people have used their Taser ECD to defend themselves from animals while hiking and enjoying the great outdoors. While many people carry a firearm (myself included) for self defense, I also carry a Taser because killing an animal for doing what comes instinctively to them is simply not something I want to do unless absolutely neccessary. I would rather, and have, deploy my Taser to deter an aggressive animal rather than put it down.
One major benefit of using tasers is that they are easy to learn how to operate which is ideal for those who do not have much time to spare. Other self defense methods may require you several days to learn such as martial arts and combat sports but that is not the case with these weapons. Another good thing is that they are very handy so you can easily carry them wherever you may go as certain models can even fit in your pockets or purse.

They also come in different sizes, designs, and colors if you want to be more fashionable with them. The price range of taser guns is also generally cheap and they are very accessible. You can purchase them from several shops or can just order them online if you want it to be more convenient. Modern versions of taser guns have also been manufactured to be safer and more efficient. They also do not cause permanent damage not like the use of firearms or other types of weapons. There are many situations wherein the attacker could be subdued without causing permanent injury to them.
