We wanted to know where you feel the most concerned about your safety, and 88% responded with.... Parking Garages. They are a daily occurrence in most of our lives, whether at the mall, where you work or even on campus. Here are some safety tips to help keep you alert and aware of your surroundings.

1) Watch Where You Park. Well lit and highly visible areas, close to the entrance or exit are best. Make sure to take a picture or note of where you parked so you won't have to worry and spend time wandering around the parking garage when it's time to leave. If possible park on the on the first floor, or a level connected to a sky bridge. Stay away from elevators and stairs as they make great hiding places for potential assailants.

2) Stay Alert! Walk with your head up and be free from distractions such as texting, phone calls, and headphones. Be aware of your surroundings, and pay close attention to the people that are around you. If you see someone suspicious hanging around, leave the garage and notify the parking attendant or police.

3) Be Organized. Whether leaving or entering your vehicle, be organized before leaving your car or entering the parking garage. Keep your keys in your hand and your phone, wallet, TASER device, or whatever else you may need within close reach.

4) Make Noise. If you begin to feel uncomfortable, make some noise! Either carry something on you or set off your car alarm. Loud noises often bring attention which can scare off would be assailants.
